Vishva Samskrita Dinam (World Sanskrit Day)

The Workd Sanskrit Day is next weekend. Our class (level-1) is presenting a skit in Sanskrit. Lakshmi prepared the script and assigned us different roles. We are responsible for translating our individual scripts into Sanskrit. I have been assigned the role of Narrator.

We didn't cover any new chapters from the Abhyasapustakam today. We went over our individual dialogs from the script and Ananthakrishnan Mahodaya corrected us. It was quite educational; in fact I felt that this script was a practical way of using our Sanskrit knowledge till date.

More details about the event can be found in this link.

Why Sanskrit?

Several people have asked me this question in the recent past with a puzzled look. Why now? why here in States? What will you gain out of this? It's so hard to reason with them. How do I explain them it's more than that for me-much more in fact. I don't know if there will be any materialistic or social benefits, in fact most probably there aren't any.

Every time I use the Sanskrit language, it feels as if I am connecting to my roots. It feels as if Jeje is still around and watching me with a smile on his face. It is my way of telling my dearest grandfather that I still fondly remember him. I still want to carry on the legacy he left with me as a child. All the hymns, slokas and words, he patiently and so lovingly taught me are here to stay with me for always. So much of what defines me has come from him and I am so grateful to him for that. I owe this to him.

Jeje, wherever you are now I want you to know that I love you and I still miss you so much.
